Schwarzenegger Goes Jindal while Assemblymembers Niello and Garrick Also Vote "NO" to Aid Unemployed Californians

March 06, 2009 @ 8:41 AM
Steven Maviglio It appears California Republicans were back in their "just say no" mode yesterday when they voted to jeopardize billions in federal economic stimulus funds designed to help the state's rising number of unemployed workers.

At a hearing of the Assembly Insurance Committee Wednesday, Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's representative, Labor and Workforce Development Agency Undersecretary Steffanie Watkins, refused to support AB 3x 23, legislation that makes California eligible for $839 million in one-time federal unemployment insurance funds available at part of the President's economic stimulus package.

This from the same Governor who just last week was all over the national media circuit criticizing Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and other Republican Governors who were spurning economic stimulus funds.

What a difference a week makes.

Meanwhile, two Republican Assemblymen Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks) and Martin Garrick (R-San Diego) were on the losing end of a 8-2 vote to approve the bill in the Assembly Insurance Committee. (The vote also signaled continued intra-party strife, when one Republican, Assemblymember Sam Blakeslee voted with Democrats).

Assemblymembers Niello and Garrick, who also cast votes against a non-binding Assembly resolution supporting the President's economic stimulus package last month, continue to prove just out of touch Republicans are.

Schwarzenegger Goes Jindal while Assemblymembers Niello and Garrick Also Vote "NO" to Aid

Posted by: Karl on March 10, 2009

It appears that the republican party in their feeble attempt to channel the ghost of Ronald Reagan got Nancy instead and her "Just Say No" campaign. They can look to their history or their propaganda but the truth is they stopped listening to the people, so the people have stopped listening to them. They are in fact the little party that "Cried Wolf."

Schwarzenegger Goes Jindal while Assemblymembers Niello and Garrick Also Vote "NO" to Aid

Posted by: Unemployed on March 12, 2009

This is a copy of a letter I sent to Martin Garrick after I read how he voted and went to his website, but my email was returned due to "failure notice".

At a time when the unemployment rate in California is in the double digits, you voted no to AB 3x 23 and as in Steven Maviglio's article "voted to jeopardize billions in federal economic stimulus funds designed to help the state's rising number of unemployed workers." You are only thinking of yourself and your reelection by soliciting donations for your reelection at a time when hundreds of thousands of people in the State of California are unemployed. You are asking Californian's to open their checkbook to get you reelected? Get real! Don't you think it's about time you work for Californian's and not for yourself and your party line? After all they're what got you where you are!

You wrote in your solicitation "Campaign for office require money". In case you don't know, raising a family, food, shelter, and day-to-day living also require money more so than your campaign, yet you cannot vote for something that is not even coming from your own checkbook! In case you don't know or have not heard Reaganomics has been dead and buried.

I could go on and on, but being one of those that is unemployed with unemployment running out, writing this is just upsetting me more knowing there are people like you!

Everyone, check out Martin Garrick's website and you will see he is already soliciting for donations to fund his reelection while unemployment is in the double digits in California. What a loser!
